The IBIS database offers more than 2200 different subject classifications to enable highly targeted promotions. These classifications are based on subjects commonly taught on degree level courses rather than course titles themselves.
The taxonomy of the IBIS database is constructed around nine key subject areas as seen below. Each core subject area is further segmented into Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4 sub-classifications, providing over two thousand subjects in total.
It is this in-depth subject classification that is used by our research team to allocate appropriate subjects to each academic or librarian on file and is available for you to choose whichever combination you need to make your marketing campaign as targeted and effective as possible.
IBIS lists are coded using a subject classification designed specifically to meet the requirements of publishers wanting to target academics and libraries with their output and to match the range of subjects commonly taught around the world.
We have found it more useful to offer a selection of subject categories based on subject areas taught rather than simply list course titles as these can vary greatly throughout the global education community and from country to country. A course title will not necessarily inform you of the range of subject areas taught across its syllabus.
Below is a breakdown of our nine core subject categories and their Tier 2 sub-categories. For a more in-depth overview of the entire subject classification, see our digital catalogue.
